Meet Karen Wu, ARDELL’S Beauty of the Week. She is trustworthy, hard-working, creative and is sharing her beauty secrets with us!
AR:
How did you get started working in beauty?
KW:
I grew up performing and I unfortunately stopped when I graduated high school. From that point, I felt like a part of me was missing, and I really longed for a way to express my creativity. Growing up on the stage, you learn all about stage makeup, which is how I truly fell in love with the beauty industry. I'm always in awe of how it can completely transform someone - physically, mentally, emotionally. I love how it empowers people, and I think that's what initially drew me to the idea of starting an Instagram page. Seven years later, I'm still creating content and loving every second!
AR:
Tell us about yourself.
KW:
I'm a beauty content creator of seven years, based in LA. I love educating people on makeup and skincare products. I always aspire to inspire, especially when it comes to creating content. I get so happy when people tell me that I taught them something, or one of my product recommendations was life changing for them.
AR:
What inspires you?
KW:
Other creators in the beauty space inspire me endlessly. I love connecting with them and learning from the community. We should always build each other up.
AR:
Describe your earliest beauty memory.
KW:
I was five years old, and it was on Halloween. I was a fairy princess, and my mom decided to put red lipstick on me to complement my sparkly white costume. I remember LOVING how I looked. From that point on, I tried to put on red lipstick as much as I could.
AR:
What is something that you no longer believe about beauty that you once did?
KW:
That you have to fit into society's view of "beautiful" to be beautiful.
AR:
How do you define beauty today?
KW:
To me, being your most kind and authentic self is the most beautiful trait!

AR:
If you could switch lives with someone for a day, who would it be? Why?
KW:
I would love to switch lives with one of my cats for a day. I want to know what it's like to truly not have responsibilities.
AR:
Instagram or TikTok?
KW:
TikTok, but Instagram will always have a special place in my heart!
AR:
Do you have any favorite beauty practices that you swear by?
KW:
Brow gel BEFORE your brow pen!
AR:
Do you have any words of advice for others who may want to embark on a beauty career path?
KW:
Stop being afraid of what others think about you and just go for it.
AR:
What’s your go-to makeup or skin care routine?
KW:
I'll do skincare because makeup will be PARAGRAPHS of text. My routine consists of cleansing, toner/essence, hydrating serum, eye cream, moisturizer, SPF (never skip!), and double cleansing at night!
AR:
Do you listen to music when you get ready? If so, who is on your playlist?
KW:
Harry Styles, Renee Rap, or my rotation of podcasts!
AR:
What would someone never guess about you?
KW:
If you've never seen me IRL, I think you'd be surprised about my height - I'm 4'10"!
AR:
What makeup trends do you love?
KW:
I love over blushing. You can never have too much blush.
AR:
In an alternative universe, what would you do for a living?
KW:
I'd probably be a chef. I definitely think I worked in the food industry in a past life. I love cooking and entertaining!

KW:
Double cleansing everyday is life changing.
