KC:
NYC based Makeup artist & skincare consultant in the industry for over 22 years specializing in WOC and South Asian skin tones. Great skin makes for great makeup!

Describe your earliest beauty memory.
KC:
My earliest beauty memory was around 7-8 years old. My mom would apply homemade yogurt in my hair as a conditioner and leave us in the bathroom tub for 15-20 mins. Around 15yrs old I remember falling in love with my mom's Estee Lauder coral blush and using it on my eyes & cheeks to give me a pop of color.

Who had the biggest beauty influence on you growing up?
KC:
My biggest beauty influence growing up was actress Alyssa Milano. She used to spill all her beauty secrets in the teen magazines.
AR:
What is something that you no longer believe about beauty that you once did?
KC:
I used to wear lots of makeup as a way to mask the things I hated about myself. Now I wear makeup to bring out the best in me. A tool to enhance my features and exude confidence. A mood booster!
Beauty & self care is SELF LOVE. A way to express yourself. My definition of beauty is we don't need much. I'm indulging in comfort and minimalism with the least amount of product with maximum pay off. Living in high speed NYC means no time for anything. Less is More. But make it count.

Do you have any favorite beauty hacks that you swear by?
KC:
Glide an ice cube on your face before applying your makeup for a fresher look! Use a lightweight Hyaluronic Acid serum for plumper looking skin!

When using a strip lash, cut in half and then apply for a more comfortable fit

Being a makeup artist is an unstable lifestyle. You never know where or when your next check is coming from! Just like any passion and/or career choice, stay focused on your craft and you can turn it into a full time profession. Build a network of support & connections that align with your mindset & future goals.
